EPA SmartWay™

SmartWay is a public/private collaboration between the US Environmental Protection Agency and the transportation industry created to assist freight shippers, carriers, and logistics companies improve fuel-efficiency and save money. Under the program, the EPA develops test protocols, reviews strategies and verifies the performance of vehicles, technologies and equipment.

Products that meet the EPA’s strict performance standards are “Verified” by the EPA and listed by the EPA on their SmartWay website. For trailer side skirts, the EPA has two standards: one for products which require additional SmartWay qualifying aerodynamic devices to meet SmartWay’s fuel saving standard, and one for products which require no additional products, know as Advanced Trailer Skirts.

Aerofficient™ products verified by the EPA as Advanced Trailer Skirts include both of Aerofficient’s fixed side fairing offerings (Models SFTI and SFGW, formerly called Models FFTI and FFGW) and Aerofficient’s “slider” side fairing (formerly called Model ASFS)

California Regulations

California, through its California Air Resources Board (CARB), has adopted a comprehensive state regulation known as the Heavy-Duty Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Regulation (the “CARB Regulation”) that requires heavy duty tractor trailer trucks to use CARB approved fuel saving technologies if they are to operate in the State of California. Specifically, the CARB Regulation mandates that operators of tractors and trailers use U.S. Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay certified tractors and trailers, or retrofit their existing fleet with SmartWay verified technologies.

All of Aerofficient’s products, as SmartWay verified products, may be used by owners or operators to satisfy their CARB requirements.

For more information regarding the CARB Regulation, visit the California Air Resources Board’s website at http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/hdghg/hdghg.htm
